The talk discusses multiple VCSes, but includes a good section about Fossil:

Very interesting, thanks for sharing that link with us.

The biggest challenge for fossil to compete with pijul (at least in future) in my opinion might be what on their homepage is listed as Partial clones.

It was several times discussed already how to do something like this with fossil but without any solution. The idea of fossil to keep all changes together forever are nice but can become a burden for ongoing activities over longer term and bigger projects. - My instant idea was if it could be possible to attach a partial-clone-repository like a database can be attached with a different schema to sqlite3. - The clone-repo could be used on its own like a normal repository which would be similar to a private branch in the main repository. Both together, when the clone-repo has been attached to the main-repo, would still have the full history. - Doesn't this sound like just extending the fossil bundle feature?

But again, the work load for such a solution could be huge and the benefit may not pay back the efforts. - But having something to offer for the up-coming competition might be enough motivation to further think about a doable solution.
