2024-04-29
23:42
Remove options for rendering the tree hierarchy using ASCII-art for the "fossil tree" command and similar. Always use only Unicode box-drawing characters. This works on newer Win10 and Win11. Maybe it doesn't work on older Windows, but the "fossil tree" command is not essential for anything - it is only a convenience - so if it doesn't work on an older platform, that really doesn't really matter. ... (check-in: 70458593 user: drh tags: trunk)

15:54
Clarity tweaks to the "Closing a Check-Out" section in the gitusers doc. ... (check-in: 6a4f2d23 user: wyoung tags: trunk)
15:32
In response to a recent forum thread, added a new section to the gitusers doc, "Fossil Never Auto-Commits". The ideas behind this were previously expressed implicitly, but con-fused with others, resulting in the lack of clarity characteristic of alchemical slag.

Put the new section before "There Is No Staging Area" as that follows on from these ideas, then calved off the subsequent section "Commit Splitting" because it covers related but separate ideas. Together, these three form a conceptual whole that is considerably clearer than the prior presentation. ... (check-in: 5f5452f1 user: wyoung tags: trunk)

22:10
Added §5.6 to the containers doc, "Email Alerts," explaining how to get email alerts out by use of the included tools/email-sender.tcl script and the "write mail to DB" feature since the default option (sendmail -ti) won't work by default and it wouldn't be appropriate to make it work besides. This then obviated the earlier half-baked advice on injecting a Tcl environment into the container; the essential point is adequately made by the Python example, so there is no point trying to rescue this plan. ... Rework forumpost closure to always apply to the first artifact in an edit chain to enable consistent behavior across the whole chain and responses to arbitrary versions within that chain. Add rudimentary UI elements for closing/re-opening posts, but their layout needs to be revisited (noting that they need to be in a separate form from the main editor so that closing/re-opening introduces only a smalll control artifact instead of a whole forumpost artifact). ...
